This year students will have a new opportunity for Psychology 1 and Psychology 2 - Online Textbook access! I am thrilled to have found this resource and hope that students utilize the online text.

Significant Contributors Research

This week Psychology 1 students are researching "Significant Contributors" to the various fields of Psychology. Monday and Tuesday students should be researching their assigned psychologist and preparing an informational poster about that individual. Tuesday (January 10) the poster should be complete and will be on display in the Psych classroom for our "Walk Through Psychology History".

Psychology 2 - Disorders Project

Your Disorders Project is due on Tuesday, January 10 - BE PREPARED TO PRESENT!!!
1. Your group needs to be prepared to "teach" your category of disorders in 10-15 minutes.
Requirements:

• 10 -15 minutes in length (3 points)
• Film clip (less than 3 minutes) OR skit presented about the disorder (2 points)
• 4 sources used (not including textbook, 1 must NOT be internet) (3 points)
• Definition of the disorder (4 points)
• Sample case study (4 points)
• 5 items – books, movies, songs about the disorder (ie – Beautiful Mind for Schizophrenia) (4 points)
• Symptoms of the disorder (4 points)
• Potential causes of the disorder (4 points)
• Disorder effects on the brain (4 points) (Specific neurotransmitters/brain parts)
• Treatment (4 points)
     o Medications? How do the affect neurotransmitters/brain?
     o Non-medical treatment (types of therapy)
     o Effectiveness of treatments
• Two multiple choice quiz questions (4 points)
2. Give Mrs. H your Bibliography. Use http://www.bibme.org/ to create your annotated bibliography in APA format.

Genie

Psych 1 started the Nova documentary today "The Wild Child," which reflects on the story of "Genie" aka Susan Wiley. Genie was discovered at the age of 13 when her mother escaped the abusive father. Read more about Genie here: http://www.feralchildren.com/en/showchild.php?ch=genie
